Three more deaths make up Inquiry’s eleventh public hearing

On 26 and 27 June 2023, Counsel Assisting will present, in a public proceeding of the Inquiry, another three documentary tender cases.

The deaths which will be the subject of these proceedings are:

  1. Anthony Cawsey
  2. Barry Jones
  3. Peter Baumann

The death of Anthony Cawsey will be presented at 2pm on Monday 26 June 2023. The case of Barry Jones will be heard at 10am on Tuesday 27 June 2023.

In all three cases, Counsel Assisting will tender a comprehensive set of the evidentiary material relevant to each case and will make a detailed submission which will include recommendations as to the finding which the Commissioner should make as to the manner and cause of each death.

The proceedings will be at the Chief Secretary’s Building, Level 2, 121 Macquarie Street, Sydney. It is open to the public and will be livestreamed via the Inquiry’s website (external link) .

The Honourable Justice John Sackar will preside at the hearing. Counsel Assisting the Inquiry will be William John Charles de Mars, Meg O’Brien and Kathleen Heath.

Any person or organisation with a direct and substantial interest in the subject matter of this hearing, as outlined in Practice Guidelines 1 is able to make an application for authorisation to appear by 5pm on Friday 23 June 2023.
