Transgender deaths the focus of Inquiry’s eighth hearing

On 2 June and 9 June 2023, Counsel Assisting will present, in public proceedings of the Inquiry, a further two documentary tender cases.

The two cases which will be the subject of the proceedings are Samantha Rose and Wendy Waine. Both deaths were previously considered by the NSW Police Force in Strike Force Parrabell.

On separate dates, Counsel Assisting will tender a comprehensive set of the evidentiary material relevant to each case and will make a detailed submission which will include recommendations as to the finding which the Commissioner should make as to the manner and cause of each death.

The first public proceeding will begin at 10am on 2 June 2023 at the Chief Secretary’s Building, Level 2, 121 Macquarie Street, Sydney. It is open to the public and will be livestreamed via the Inquiry’s website (external link) .

The Honourable Justice John Sackar will preside at the hearing. Counsel Assisting the Inquiry will be Christine Melis and Kathleen Heath.
